Instruments : Rudra Veena

Description:

The Rudra-Veena is a plucked string instrument, similar to the saraswati veena, but much larger. It has a longer body and the resonators are much larger. This instrument is primarily used in Hindustani Classical music. The word 'Rudra', is a name for the Lord Shiva.
The sound of this instrument is rich in bass and overtones, it is very meditative in nature . An illustration to personify the nature of the two types of veena - "the Saraswati Veena can be compared to the Lasyam, and the Rudra Veena, to the Thandavam"
